1 Power Wheel Jeeps Great fun, but age recommendation off.

1 Power Wheel Jeeps Great fun, but age recommendation off.

This is my opinion only, to help those unsure about what ages are best for this cart. We purchased this for my son, an average slim caucasian 6 year old boy for his birthday. Once we had it, I wished we had gotten it at least a year earlier based on its size. By 7, he was already well past optimal size. By 8.5, he was really just too big for it. His younger sister, who is larger for her age, began driving it at the low speed when she was 3.5 or so, with her 7.5 brother riding with her, in fenced private open space with few hazards. The younger limit is really more about the child's ability and judgement in handling the car, and more importantly, parental good sense and judgement. After learning and experience with her brother, she was driving it solo, at high, and with her younger sister as passenger, at low, by 4.5 to 5 or so, with close parental oversight, in fenced private open space with few hazards. I would say for an average individual child, buying it much younger than 4.5 to 5 requires very diligent supervision, and buying it much older than 7 would make it hard to get your money's worth before they start looking like a monkey on a matchbox car.

Fabulous Power Wheel Jeeps

Fabulous Power Wheel Jeeps

Fabulous power! Will need some driving experience prior to getting this. Front bumper fell off - we could never get it to attach appropriately. Doesn't interfere with operation so we bought screws to permanently attach but haven't got around to doing it yet. Lots of money spent, but it seems to be built to last (hope the battery holds up because our 12v gave up on us). Definitely have our mister making use of the seatbelts because it takes off. Absolutely love it! Glad my husband talked me into forking out the dough.

6-10 yr Power Wheel Jeeps

6-10 yr Power Wheel Jeeps

My grandson loves it. He is small for his age, and it states it fits 6-10 yr olds, but I don't think he'll be able to use it until he is 10 yrs. old. The position of the "gas pedal" is perfect right now, and when he gets taller and closer to 8 or 9 yrs old I think it will be a tight fit. It does work great otherwise though. The rubber strips do help get up hills better than his "Gator" did without the rubber strips. His gator would spin on small hills and we would have to put a cement block in the dump box to add weight so he could get up the hills on the slow speed. I think if the rubber strips on the wheels were wider it would get even better traction. We haven't tried the fastest speed yet but I'm sure it won't have ANY problems climbing hills then in the higher speed! Overall we are very happy with it so far.

2 Power Wheel Jeeps Great fun, but age recommendation off
I will not speak to the reliability of my cart, because the newer model has the same basic body and size, but better upgraded electrical components, which were a huge problem in the older version. We have basically had to replace most all of the electrical components to those which now come standard on the new version, i.e. 350 watt motors vs. 250 watt motors, etc., etc. Fortunately the replacement parts are readily available on the Internet, but not Amazon so much, and not as expensive as I would have expected, except for the battery, which alone cost more than replacing the 2 motors, 2 gearboxes, and 100% all other electrical components combined at this writing. Fortunately our battery has held up very well. We replaced the charger with a 24 volt Battery Tender Charger/Maintainer that we bought on Amazon when the factory charger quit. I now view the factory charger quitting as fortunate, given the price of the battery, and the vastly superior replacement charger. I would highly recommend buying the better charger a soon as possible. You have to adapt the connector. I cut the wire and plug from the old dead charger and put a standard charger plug on the cord and it works fine. Some people instead replace the plugs on the cart and battery with standard battery charger plugs, but since my factory charger was smoked anyway, I took the easier route. I took one star off for overall quality control, which is quite generous, I think, given our actual experience. But the new components, now standard, are much better, and this is a unique, one of a kind, best in a class all its own kind of product. The kids do love to ride it, and it is fun to see them have that much fun!
I didn't plan to write a book, but I hope some of this is helpful. Thanks.

    ***UPDATE 10-2013
I have to mention that the battery for this has a very long life. We don't use it for long periods but it has been used quite a bit and it has needed charging only once in many, many months. A pleasant surprise in my book!***

Although this jeep is designed for children ages 3-5, my 7 year old has wanted one for a long time so the opportunity to get one to review was too good to pass up.

We assembled it (about 30 minutes from start to finish) and charged the battery (18 hours for the first charge) and put her in it. She is about 55 pounds and average height and is about as big as you could fit inside. But she was so thrilled to push the pedal and get it moving that being slightly cramped was not an issue. There is plenty of growth room for children age 3-5 and I'm sure this would be fine for a year for a 6 year-old.

There are three drive speeds: low or slow gear that goes about 2-3 mph, reverse, and high or fast gear that goes about 5-6 mph. You have the option (and it comes locked) to keep it from going into the faster gear. It is as simple as removing a screw to allow for the two forward speed options.

It is cute, solid (although all plastic) and moves easily. The response time in braking (when you take your foot off the 'gas' pedal) is quick and automatic. The steering is responsive and easy to move. The biggest drawback is the plastic tires. I wish they were a rubber composite. We ran them on gravel, some loose and some tightly packed with little trouble -- although it does tend to spin slightly when starting up. We also ran it on macadam (blacktop) with no trouble and less noise. It went up some good hills and down without any trouble.

It comes with a 'radio' programmed with 6 tunes (no lyrics, just music).

    Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

We bought my daughter this jeep for Christmas and are absolutely thrilled with it. My daughter is almost four and this jeep is the perfect size for her. Though she had only driven a power wheels once before in her life she took right to it having no problems with controlling, reversing or steering the vehicle. She has driven it on grass, pavement, gravel, even on a bumpy path through our woods with no problem at all. She has yet to get it stuck anywhere after driving over all types of terrain. You can lock the jeep so it will run no faster than 2.5 mph but my daughter prefers the higher speed of 5 mph so we have not bothered to so far.

The only headache with this jeep was purchasing it from Amazon. I purchased it from Amazon on cyber monday when they had a great deal on it but five days later (3 days before it was supposed to arrive at my house) I was told it was no longer in stock and would not receive it before Christmas. I checked online and found they were still selling the jeep but at a much higher price. When I asked why they weren't shipping me a jeep I was told I could reorder it and receive it before Christmas but pay the new higher price which was almost double what I had originally purchased it at. Over the course of a couple weeks I spent hours on the phone, with multiple people from customer service in order to get the jeep in time for Christmas at the original price I had bought it at. I was told so many different things by each person and had to constantly check the progress of my order since so many mistakes were made on my billing.

The jeep itself I love and I am so happy I bought it for my daughter. Amazon, however, I would be very leery of ever doing business with again.

    Hot Wheels Jeep Wrangler

We bought this for our 5 yrs old son for his bday. And he loves it! It has pretend radio and car sounds. It works well on grass or concrete, even an incline driveway. The battery lasts a long time, as long as you follow the charging instructions. We had power wheels ride-ons before and my husband is very diligent in charging it after every use. It's worth your time to be diligent because to replace the batteries will cost you some bucks! The only cons is just the size is small. My children are little, so being a small 5 yrs old, my son will be able to use this for at least a couple of more years. But if you child is tall and big, you might want to skip riding toys altogether unless you can see a model toy in store.
